ROBERT NSIBIRWA CONCLUDES LANDMARK DECADE AT UGANDA BREWERIES LIMITED

Seasoned business leader departs Uganda Breweries / EABL / Diageo to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, leaving behind a transformative legacy across teams and functions

Robert Nsibirwa, one of Uganda’s most respected corporate leaders, has announced his departure from Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) after a distinguished ten-year tenure, stepping away to pursue his own entrepreneurial ambitions.

Nsibirwa’s exit closes a chapter that stands among the more compelling professional journeys in Uganda’s corporate landscape — one defined not by a single, linear ascent, but by a series of deliberate reinventions across roles, functions, and geographies within the Diageo family of companies.

A Decade of Purposeful Leadership

Joining UBL in 2015, Nsibirwa built a career distinguished by versatility, institutional depth, and a people-centered leadership philosophy that earned him the trust and admiration of peers, direct reports, and industry stakeholders alike. Over the course of his tenure, he served across multiple capacities within Uganda Breweries Limited, East African Breweries PLC (EABL), and global spirits leader Diageo accumulating the kind of hard-won wisdom that no formal education can manufacture.

What set Nsibirwa apart was not merely his longevity, but the texture of it. He approached each new assignment as an opportunity for growth, embracing unfamiliar responsibilities and stepping confidently into new geographies of challenge. In doing so, he cultivated a leadership style rooted in trust, creativity, and a genuine commitment to developing those around him.

Perhaps most revealing is how Nsibirwa speaks of the teams he led — not as subordinates, but as giants whose shoulders he stood upon. That inversion of typical corporate language reflects something authentic about his philosophy: that leadership, at its best, is a reciprocal relationship.

Gratitude and Acknowledgement

In his farewell statement, Nsibirwa expressed heartfelt gratitude to the mentors and colleagues who shaped his journey. He singled out for special acknowledgement to Catherine W. Ndungu, Jean Okech, Emmy Hashakimana, Juliana Kagwa, Grace Nshemeire-Gwaku, Marion Muyobo, Felicite Nson, Alvin Mbugua, Andrew Itambo Kilonzo, and Anthony Njenga, individuals he credits with guiding and inspiring him across his decade of service.

UBL has expressed full gratitude for his contributions, and the organization’s leadership joins the wider industry in wishing him well in the next chapter.

Looking Ahead

Nsibirwa departs to pursue personal business interests, carrying with him a formidable professional network, decades of earned institutional wisdom, and the quiet tenacity that comes from having truly shown up year after year, team after team.

The corporate world loses a seasoned operator. East Africa’s business community gains an entrepreneur worth watching.
