East African Breweries PLC (EABL) has announced the appointment of Anne Joy Michira as Group Marketing and Innovations Director, marking a significant addition to its executive leadership team.

Michira brings nearly 20 years of expertise in brand building, portfolio strategy, and consumer marketing across Africa’s highly competitive beverage and consumer goods markets. She steps into the role after serving as Marketing and Innovations Director for South, West, and Central Africa at Diageo, EABL’s parent company, where she gained extensive experience in multi-market brand strategy at a continental level.

Her career journey within EABL has been equally distinguished. Michira previously held the position of Marketing and Innovations Director for East Africa, overseeing both beer and spirits portfolios, and also served as Acting Marketing and Innovations Director at Kenya Breweries Limited. Earlier, she rose through senior roles including Head of Marketing for Beer East Africa, Head of Spirits, and Marketing Manager for Mainstream Spirits. Notably, she spearheaded an innovation rollout for Kenya Cane that drove 20 percent growth in just six months.

Before joining EABL, Michira spent a decade at British American Tobacco, where she advanced through trade marketing, key accounts, and brand management roles, culminating as Area Brand Manager for the Aspirational Premium segment. This experience provided her with a strong foundation in trade execution, consumer engagement, and resource management — skills that have shaped her leadership style throughout her career.

In her new capacity, Michira will lead EABL’s brand portfolio and innovation agenda at a time of intensifying competition and rapidly evolving consumer preferences in East Africa’s beverage industry. Her appointment underscores EABL’s commitment to leveraging seasoned, regionally experienced leadership to drive its next phase of growth.
