Robin Bairstow took over as CEO of I&M Bank Uganda in October 2023, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his successful eight-year tenure as CEO of I&M Bank Rwanda.

With over 30 years in senior banking roles across Africa and Asia, Robin has built a distinguished career at leading institutions including Standard Chartered Bank, Citibank, BOE Bank, ABSA, and Nedbank.

His academic foundation includes graduation from the South African Merchant Naval Academy, a CIBM (SA) qualification, and a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Leicester.

At I&M Bank Rwanda, Robin’s leadership was transformative: the bank’s total assets tripled to RWF 491.3 billion, pre-tax profits rose to RWF 13.4 billion, and it was successfully listed on the Rwanda Stock Exchange in 2017.

Since assuming leadership at I&M Bank Uganda, Robin has delivered the bank to profitability and positioned it as one of the most visible and dynamic financial brands in the country.

Through strategic partnerships and bold brand transformation, he has elevated I&M Bank Uganda’s profile, serving as its chief spokesperson and championing initiatives that resonate with diverse audiences.

These include high-profile sponsorships in golf, collaborations with the Buganda Kingdom, and engagements in entertainment, all of which have strengthened the bank’s cultural relevance.

Under his leadership, I&M Bank Uganda has carved out a unique identity: the go-to institution for SMEs, corporate, and investment clients, while simultaneously cultivating a youthful, energetic image as a hip brand.
